Ray Boltz Comes Out

September15

Please join me in praying for Ray Boltz and his family.  On friday, Sept 12, he was interviewed by a homosexual newspaper and admitted that he has been living a homosexual lifestyle for the past 33 years.  As this saddens most Christians who have grown up hearing and singing his music, we as Christians have a far greater call before us.  We must pray for Ray and his family.

Read this article from Christianity Today for more details.

Maria Sue Chapman Tribute

September6

When I first heard that Steven Curtis Chapman’s adopted daughter, Maria Sue Chapman, had been killed in a car accident, I was shocked, confused, sad, etc.

My wife and I have a daughter, Abbie, who celebrated her 5th birthday just a few days after Maria Sue.  I cannot imagine losing Abbie.  I can’t imagine the pain and loss that Steven Curtis and Mary Beth went through (and are still going through).

I’m an orphan, just like Maria Sue.  I became an orphan when my mother died in December 1974, just a few days before my 6th birthday.  My father had died a little over a year earlier in September 1973.  My older sister, Crystal, and I were orphans.

“But God…”

I love those two words.  They communicate hope.  They communicate something that is totally outside of us and our circumstances.

But God was there with us.  My aunt and uncle (Larry and Joyce Tatman) accepted my sister and myself into their family and raised us with their own two daughters.

We were the “lucky” ones.  Not all orphaned children are.  That’s why the Bible tells us that “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress….”

That’s why Steven Curtis and Mary Beth adopted Maria Sue (and Shaohannah and Stevey Joy).  I’m so thankful for families that take orphaned children into their homes and provide them with a new family.

My heart immediately looked for a way that I could express my thanks and sympathy to the Chapman family. So, I used what I know (computers and the web) and I created a “lens” on Squidoo in memory of Maria Sue Chapman ( http://www.squidoo.com/mariasuechapman ).  I had no idea what the response would be.

To date, I’ve had over 5500 unique visitors to the site.  I’ve donated over $30 of revenue from the site to Maria’s Miracle Fund, created by Steven Curtis Chapman to financially aid the adoption process.  My goal is to donate a total of $300 by October 1.  And you can be a part of this effort.

I invite you to visit my “lens” at http://www.squidoo.com/mariasuechapman .  When you visit the page you’ll increase the traffic which will increase the revenue received which will be donated to Maria’s Miracle Fund.  Also, any products you purchase from the site will generate affiliate revenue which will be donated to Maria’s Miracle Fund.

Here’s the URL again:  http://www.squidoo.com/mariasuechapman

Thanks for partnering with me on this project!

Why I am a Republican in 2008

August25

My wife asked me last night to write a small explanation of why I am a Republican.  Here’s what I wrote.  I hope you find it interesting…and challenging.

  • I believe in freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
  • I do not believe in big government.
  • I believe in the depravity of man and in the rule of law.
  • I believe in the free market.
  • I believe higher taxes are part of the democratic agenda and lead to a dependence upon a large government.
  • I believe that lower taxes breed a stronger economy by keeping earned income in the hands of the worker.
  • I believe social welfare programs do not help, but hurt individuals.
  • I believe in the privatization of most if not all sectors of our economy.
  • I believe government control of the health care industry will destroy the best health care in the world.
  • I believe in individual responsibility and not dependence upon social welfare.
  • I believe in the death penalty.
  • I believe that a large standing army is the best deterrent to violence in the world today.
  • I believe that the war in Afghanistan and Iraq are necessary wars to protect this nation and other nations of the world from flagrant terrorism.
  • I believe that this world is a safer place without Saddam Hussein.
  • I believe that men and women are different.
  • I believe that marriage has always been and should always be between one man and one woman.
  • I believe that homosexuality is lethal to any civilization.
  • I believe in the sanctity of life, that life begins at the moment of conception and that abortion is among the greatest evils this world has ever seen.
  • I do not support the United Nations as it stands today.
  • I believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and so I am proud to announce that I am a Republican in 2008.
